McVey, Vander Ley to lead Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center
November, 2021 - Scott McVey, director of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will continue to lead the Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center (GPVEC) as the center's interim director. Brian Vander Ley, an assistant professor and veterinary epidemiologist at GPVEC, will serve alongside McVey as assistant director.

GPVEC Summer Interns Develop Biosecurity Plans for Nebraska Cattle Producers
October, 2021 - University of Nebraska-Lincoln students Neligh Andersen, Tatiana Jones and Ashtin Kaumans, teamed up with South Dakota State University student, Maddy Kimbrough (an Ohiowa, Nebraska native), to assist producers in developing operation-specific secure beef supply (SBS) plans. Their work was recently featured in Nebraska Today.

Jaden Carlson awarded 2021 Angus Foundation Graduate Scholarship
July, 2021 - Jaden Carlson was awarded the 2021 Angus Foundation Graduate Scholarship at the National Junior Angus Show in Grand Island, Nebraska. Carlson is a PhD student under the direction of Dr. Brian Vander Ley at Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center.

August, 2020 - Veterinary student training for the Academic Year 2020-21 began in July at GPVEC with ISU students completing the Sheep Weaning Management Elective and the Ultrasound Pregnancy Examination Elective.

Updates/Renovations underway at GPVEC
July, 2020 - Construction crews from various companies have been hard at work over the past few weeks installing a fire suppression system. Scheduled for completion in September, their work will also include a new fire alarm system, ceiling tiles, and LED lighting throughout the building to provide GPVEC with an overall updated look! With the fire suppression system in place, the residence hall will be available for students participating in veterinary training courses at GPVEC. Stay tuned for news on upcoming updates to our classroom!

Dr. Rebecca Funk to serve as interim Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance Coordinator
June, 2020 - Through a partnership with UNL, Nebraska Cattlemen, and the Nebraska Beef Council, GPVEC's Dr. Rebecca Funk has assumed the position of interim Nebraska Beef Quality Assuarance Corrdinator. This position will assist the BQA in their duties to inform both beef producers and consumers regarding applicable practices throughout the production process.
