Food Animal Clinical Care and Treatment

Overview

FACCT involves the clinical care of the USMARC cowherd. Summer work focuses on hoof health and pinkeye (IBK) treatment. Fall/winter work will focus on helping recently weaned calves get off to a good start at the feedlot. Spring will involve neonatal calf care. All seasons will include necropsy and any other sick animal care and treatment that is needed.

Students will need to bring:

  • Two pair of coveralls (washed daily)
  • Overshoes or Rubber Boots (must not have buckles or laces)
  • Stethoscope

Please bring appropriate footwear to change for use in the field or classroom and residence hall.

The Food Animal Clinical Care and Treatment Elective begins Monday at 8 a.m. unless students are notified otherwise.
